Our fantastic client is looking for a Lead Environment Artist that is outstanding in creating evocative and immersive worlds. This group of experienced game developers is creating a new title with amazing opportunities for visuals and gameplay. Working from a Southern California office, you’ll partner with other artists, designers, and engineers to deliver best in class game art. If you’ve got the skills, experience and motivation to drive a AAA environment team, we would love to meet you. This is a full-time position in Tustin, California studio - you must be willing to relocate. For out-of-the-country candidates, you must have a work VISA in the USA, they are unable to sponsor at this time.
Requirements:
- Ability to manage and lead a team of internal and external artists
- Advanced skills in architectural modeling and modular workflows
- Practical understanding of real-world architectural construction
- Passion and skill in creating evocative, immersive environments
- Highly skilled at tiling texture workflows and tools such as Substance Designer
- Excellent attention to detail regarding shape, scale, and proportion
- Ability to quickly understand where detail is needed and where it is not
- Experience using masked materials and physically based rendering (PBR) workflows
- Deep understanding of current generation asset pipelines and how to further develop them
- Experience building functional, mechanical environment elements
- Strong conceptual and concept interpretation skills
- Ability to manage large projects, including research, documentation, and visual design
- Have shipped multiple games in Unreal as a Senior or Lead Environment Artist
- Portfolio demonstrating a variety of techniques and visually appealing art assets
Responsibilities:
- Create benchmark environments that set high visual and technical standards
- Create and oversee art assets that range from realistic to slightly stylized
- Work closely with the project Art Director and other Leads achieve the game vision
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary departments to hit visual and functional goals
- Constantly push to improve our environment creation process
- Manage the environment team to ensure best possible quality in a timely fashion
- Create and publish workflow and process documentation
- Provide written and verbal feedback to both internal and external artists
- Mentor and train artists to promote best practices and achievable workflows
- Understand and communicate visual direction through words and images
Bonus Qualifications:
- Mentoring and tutoring skills
- Experience in photogrammetry
- Deep understanding of architectural styles and history
- Houdini and asset creation for Unreal
- Experience on first-person or third-person games
- Experience working in feature film or tv animation pipeline
- Bachelor’s degree in Art & Design
